Create a guide to aged care

This video provides an overview of My Guide to Aged Care, a feature on the My Aged Care website  that gives you step-by-step guidance personalised to your needs and situation.

The purpose of My Guide to Aged Care is simple:

• to make the aged care process clear and easy to follow, and
• to give you control and quick access to personalised preferences and content throughout the process.

How does My Guide to Aged Care work?

There are different pathways to create a personalised My Guide for yourself, but a good place to start is the Help explorer.

To get to the Help explorer, go to 'Get started' in the main menu and select 'How aged care can help in your situation'.

Now you can start personalising this page to your situation.

Answer some simple questions about the kind of help you're looking for, activities and tasks you may need help with, any situation you may be in  that requires extra support, and specialised care needs you may have.

Once you're done, you will see a summary of your preferences based on the answers you provided. If you need to make any changes, you can, using the 'Update' button.

You can see stories from other people in similar situations and save them to your guide for later. You will also see the type or types of care most suited to your needs and other tailored care or specialised care to meet your unique needs.

At any point during this process, you can go to My Guide to go through your checklist, review your saved items and preferences, and more.

My dashboard

My dashboard provides quick access to the checklist, saved items, and personalised recommendations.

Here, you can save a unique link to make it easy to get back to your saved information later. Tips on how to do this are included in the 'Save your unique link' section. You can even share the link with someone else.

If you prefer a hard copy, you can download and print this page.

My checklist

My checklist, the central feature of the guide, creates personalised steps to let you track your progress and complete tasks online.

Create your own checklist by answering a few quick questions. Some information may already be pre-selected, based on answers you provided earlier. You can change these if you need to. You will then see your personalised checklist.

Your checklist will outline the type of care that seems like the best match for your needs based on the answers you selected and the steps to get you from where you are now to accessing aged care services.

As you check off each item in your checklist, you are moved to the next step.

You don't have to complete all the steps in one go. If you continue to access My Guide from the same device, you can come back later and pick up where you left off.

My situation and needs

My situation and needs shows your personalisation settings and saved details. It integrates with other tools, including Find a provider and the fee estimators. You can add services and other additional information here if you want to.

Remember, we don't store any personally identifiable information, and you can edit or delete your choices at any time from this page.

My saved items

My saved items is where your saved content appears.

If you haven't saved anything yet, you will be prompted to start by visiting Help explorer. From there you can navigate to stories, services, and general information pages, and save as many items as you want.

Everything you save gets added to your saved items in My Guide.

My shortlist

My shortlist lets you save, compare, and share up to 16 providers per care type.

If you haven't shortlisted any providers yet, you can do that later and your shortlisted providers will show up on this page. You can compare up to 3 providers from your shortlist side by side. You can also change your selected providers at any time, and you can even email your shortlist to others.
