The way we calculate Star Ratings is changing and we want to know what you think.
The Department will change the way some of the ratings are calculated, following the introduction of the new Aged Care Act anticipated on 1 July 2025.
What are Star Ratings?
Star Ratings are an important way to see and compare the quality of aged care homes.
Aged care homes receive a rating of 1 to 5 stars, based on an overall Star Rating and four sub-category ratings:
- Residents’ Experience
- Compliance
- Staffing
- Quality Measures.
Have your say
Older people, their families and carers are encouraged to have their say on how the changes may impact them.
A consultation process is now open and we want to hear your feedback on:
- how the Compliance rating is calculated
- how the Staffing rating is calculated
- additional changes based on early stakeholder feedback from our recent evaluation.
Feedback closes on 13 December 2024 and will help to inform changes to ratings and other improvements to Star Ratings.
Visit the Consultation Hub for information and how to participate.
Do you have a question about the consultation or need assistance to participate?
Please email: au-fm-star-ratings@kpmg.com.au.
You can use Star Ratings to compare the quality of care, safety and services of aged care homes nationally, by using the ‘Find a provider’ tool.
