Equipment and products

This service provides equipment and products to help with keeping well, completing daily activities, and to keep you safe and independent at home. This can range from low cost, low risk items such as one-handed jar openers or medicine dispensers, to more complex and customised items such as wheelchairs or shower chairs.

This service includes:

  • identifying, sourcing and supplying equipment and products
  • prescription of the items, if required
  • clinical support to correctly use the equipment and products.

This service does not include:

  • more complex or customised equipment without prescription or advice from a suitably qualified health professional
  • equipment that is over the provided budget.

How it could help

  • Help to manage body functions, such as compression garments and reaching devices
  • Help to care for yourself, such as dressing aids and incontinence alarms
  • Help to stay mobile, such as wheelchairs and walking frames
  • Help with domestic life, such as non-slip plates and touch lights
  • Help with communicating and information management, such as voice amplifiers and page turners

How can I access this service?

This service can be provided through the Commonwealth Home Support Program, the Support at Home program, or the Transition Care Program. Your aged care assessor determines your eligibility to access these programs and this service.

Support at Home program

Designed for those with more complex and intensive care needs. It provides ongoing access to services, assistive technology and home modifications to help you stay living independently at home for longer.

Commonwealth Home Support Program

Entry-level care for those who need a low level of support to keep living independently and safely at home. Supports can include one or two basic services.

How do I get assessed for services?

An aged care assessment determines whether you are approved to access services. Using our online tool, you can check if you meet the requirements for an assessment before you apply for one.
